Omar Marques is a Portuguese freelance photojournalist from the northwest of Portugal. Photographing wild twin pandas in the Austrian Alps or the biggest and most evil ice maze in the world located next to the Polish Himalayas, were some of the most dangerous assignments he ever faced. Omar works as a freelance photojournalist for several news agencies on editorial and commercial assignments and has his own studio in the Polish Siberia, KRAKOW. Besides providing news coverage around Central and Eastern Europe and the Wild Balkans, he works on personal long term projects.

Was one of the first signatories of Charter 77, a document criticizing the Communist government of Czechoslovakia for not respecting human rights and later served as the group’s spokesman. He is also a founding member of CivicFORUM, a dissident movement that helped to overthrow the Communist government in Czechoslovakia. He was elected to the Federal Assembly where he joined the Foreign Affairs Committee and later became deputy minister of Foreign Affairs.

He is the Executive Director of Vaclav Havel Library in Prague and former President of Aspen Institute Central Europe (2012-2015). Previously he was the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United Kingdom (2009-2015), to Israel (2003- 2009) and to the United States (1992-1997). In 1989 he was a founding member of the Czech chapter of P.E.N., the international organization of writers and translators that was banned in Czechoslovakia during the Communist era.

Inauguration of 16. Visegrad Summer School

Today we had a pleasure to open 16th Visegrad Summer School. The day was full of inspiring words and  great atmosphere. From now on, 45 students from 13 countries  will focus on evolving they own projects within Lab workshops (Academia, Business or Culture) and  will gain knowledge on signifficant issues during lectures. At the same time they will be experiencing cultural events, such as: study visits in Krakow and Malopolska Region, Photo Exhibitions, Concert or Movie Screening. Following weeks appear to be extremly intense.
