Since April 1971 he performed research in the areas of bio-cybernetics, automatic control engineering, and computer science. In 1975 he was awarded the Ph.D. degree, and in 1981 the degree of Doctor of Sciences (Doctor Habilitatus). In 1986 he became Associate Professor and in 1991 Full Professor at the AGH University of Science and Technology. He has written over 600 scientific papers, published in prestigious Polish and foreign scientific journals, as well as numerous conference presentations - both national and international. Prof.

One of the most impressive voices at Polish ethno music stage as well as an artist frequently awarded, eg. Grand Prix by Polish Radio Folk Festival "New Tradition", Audience Award "New Tradition”, Polish TV Song Competition 'Opole’  and many others; vocalist and violinist well known for her folk/ethno music inspired by Polish and Slavonic traditional music. Joanna co-creates an excellent Polish ethno group Muzykanci as well as performs with Krakow's scene's outstanding musicians.

After that, he became the adviser of Sh'uun Dawliya (International Affairs) magazine until 2012, and then editor in chief of al-Mostaqil (The Independent) weekly magazine, in the years 2015-2016.

Sociologist and PhD Candidate affiliated at the Jagiellonian University where she is leading the research “Disability, motherhood, care. Reproductive autonomy and motherhood experiences of women with disabilities in Poland”. Her main interests are located in the fields of gender, disability studies and qualitative and participatory methodology. As a researcher she has been working in various scientific projects tackling social exclusion to reduce inequalities. In 2017 she published book “Różnym Głosem.
