At the 23rd VSS Multicultural Evening, the tables turned and participants became the presenters - showcasing their roots, traditions, and perspectives in their own creative ways.
Six groups took us on a journey through themes of History, Heritage, Tradition, Music, Sports, and Politics, offering a rich and sometimes surprising glimpse into the cultures of Central and Eastern Europe.
History kicked off with a Kahoot quiz exploring post-imperial shifts, independence movements, and historical myths. A mix of facts and fun, with prizes that added a local flavor.
Heritage invited us into personal and national identity through traditional songs, customs, architecture, and tastes from Bosnian Rakia to Ukrainian borshch and Hungarian dance.
Tradition blended flavors and trivia, offering regional treats like Czech mustard chips, Slovak Kofola, and North Macedonian wine, straight from vineyards that are still a niche on European markets, but rapidly gaining recognition for their quality.
Music brought stories to life through sound. From Slovak fusion to Armenian folk instruments and Kosovan epic chants, the group showed how deeply music reflects a nation's soul.
Sports kept things competitive, quizzing us on national favorites, iconic moments, and unexpected facts, like which president had a soft spot for skiing, or the history of Silesian derbies.
Politics closed the evening with wit and insight. Through a lively quiz and videos, we discovered the countries where politicians sing, dance, or teach whisky etiquette on TV, and where ice cream became a political statement.
It was an evening full of curiosity, humor, and connection - proof that when students take the mic, cultures don’t just speak. They resonate.
