Dominika Krzemień

Dominika Krzemień

Doctoral student at Faculty of Philology at Silesian University in Katowice, master’s degree holder in Polish Philology and Film Studies via MISH. Her major concerns are the 20th century Polish poetry and modernistic prose. M.A. in film studies obtained by an analysis of Sally Potter’s works. Her interests concern the ontology and pathology of literary and cinematic image – tracing the distortions of artistic conventions.

András Lanczi

Political scientist focusing upon political philosophy. Since 2002 he has been the Director of the Institute of Political Science, Corvinus University of Budapest. He is a lecturer in the history of 20th century political philosophy, political economy and democratic theory. He has been publishing for twenty years producing five books, editing three encyclopaedias, and active in Hungarian public life. He was a Fulbright Professor at the Louisiana State University, 1997-8, was awarded the annual 'Bibó-prize' in 2003. A discussion leader of the Liberty Fund. Also, he has been an advisor to the incumbent Hungarian President, László Sólyom.

Reader in Russian Politics and Society at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London, UK. She studied Economics at the Novosibirsk State University (1986) and Social and Political Theory at the University of Cambridge (Newnham College, M.Phil.1992; Ph.D.1996). She has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at New Hall, Cambridge in 1996-1999; a Senior Fellow at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University (2005); and a Simon Professor at the University of Manchester (2006).

Jozef Lupták

Jozef Lupták

One of the leading contemporary musicians in Slovakia. He graduated from VŠMU and Royal Academy of Music in London. Jozef Lupták recorded several albums (e.g. complete suites for solo cello by J. S. Bach, the Cello Project, premiere recordings of V. Godár’s music, live recording from a recital in London, etc.), participated in the creation of several productions of contemporary composers. Jozef Lupták is a co-founder of the Opera Aperta ensemble. He is also the innitiator and art director of the Konvergencie music festival. He gave concerts in the U.S., Mexico, Hungary, France and the UK. His past season’s extraordinary projects included a solo recital at the Melos-Etos festival and an invitation to hold courses at Cardiff University and at the Royal Academy of Music in Wales.

Tamás Mérei

Tamás Mérei

Studied under Csaba Onczay, Sándor Devich and Ferenc Rados in Hungary, then at Indiana university in the U.S. and also as a Fulbright scholar at Yale University and under Aldo Parison at the Julliard School in  New Yorku. Among other prizes, Tamás Mérei is the youngest winner of the prestigeous Popper Cello Competition, international competition of the Hungarian Public Radio, and the winner of the main prize at the Piatigorsky Festival in Los Angeles. As a soloist, he has performed in Europe, USA, Israel and Japan. As a world premiere, he recorded Paganini’s 24 Caprices for Hungaroton Classic. He teaches at Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest.

A graduate of the XIV school of the Liders of the Civil Society (2006), graduate of the course: "Challenges of Sustainable Development” (2004). Coordinator of the project: Polish Forum of Ecological Education: “Eko Media Forum 2003”. Member of international conferences about Sustainable Development.

Former Undersecretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. Director of the East Center of Polish Open University and deputy of the board of foundation „ Aid for Poles in the East”. Author of many publications about Polish eastern politics.

Aleksandra Ohar

Aleksandra Ohar

Studied cello at the Academy of Music in Warsaw under Tomasz Strahl. Guest student at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Augsburg under Julius Berger. Alekszandra Ohar attended master courses at the Mozarteum Salzburg and in Łańcut, Źagań and Zamośći under famous cellists like A. Bauer, J. Berger, K. Michalik and T. Strahl. Already at the age of 12, she received the first prize at a competition for cello and double bass students in Rzeszów and several other awards at Polish festivals and competitions. In 2005 Ohar took part in the P. Casals International Competition in Germany. Besides her classical cello repertoire (Haydn, Dvořák, Tschaikovsky and others), Ohar also devotes herself to contemporary music (she participated in the Laboratorium Muzyki Współcesnej project). She performs as a soloist as well as an orchestra and chamber musician.

Former president of Hungarian Sociological Association, Vice-President of the National UNESCO Commission. Visiting professorships in US, Canadian, UK, German, Austrian, Russian, Ukrainian and other universities. Main interests: political sociology, science policy, sociology of intellectuals, comparative studies on East- and Central Europe.
