Imre Kertész (9.11.1929 – 31.03.2016)

Imre Kertész (9 November 1929 – 31 March 2016) was a Hungarian author, Holocaust concentration camp survivor, and recipient of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Literature, "for writing that upholds the fragile experience of the individual against the barbaric arbitrariness of history".

Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford Fellow, member of the Commission of Experts on Migrants to the Ombudsman’s Office.

Graduated from the Eötvös Lόránd University in Budapest. Defended her PhD thesis in History and in 1986 obtained habilitated doctor degree at the History Institute of Warsaw University. She is the Laureate of the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship Award in 1988-89. Her research focuses on studying Settlement History in Central Europe in the Middle Ages specializing in German Settlement and German Law. She worked for the Hungarian Diplomatic Service in Warsaw, Poland.
