As Editor-in-Chief of the liberal Dagens Nyheter, Sweden's largest morning daily, for sixteen years. He left his position in 1998, voicing sharp criticisms of the monopoly tendencies involving the parent company. As an essayist, he contributed to journals in Scandanavia, the German-speaking countries, France and the United States, focusing on aspects of European culture and politics. Among his most noted achievements as an author is a book on the arts under fascism: Staging Society: Aesthetics and Politics in the Third Reich (co-authored with Ingemar Karlsson).

Graduated from the Krakow University of Economics (Management) and the Academy of Anti-discrimination Training. Educator and consultant specializing in gender and equality issues. From 1997 to 2000 she worked as coordinator for the USAID Local Partnership Program, later until 2003 for the Department of Education and Culture in the Marshal Office of the Malopolska Region.

Born in Poland. Journalist. Emigrated to Sweden in 1969 and became Swedish citizen in 1978. Cultural editor at Dagens Nyheter, Stockholm, the largest daily newspaper in Sweden. In 1997 revealed the scandal of forced sterilisation of more than 60.000 people by Swedish government between 1935 and 1976.
