Professor of Physics. Graduated from Warsaw University and Warsaw Technical University. Laureate of the Hugo Steinhaus Prize and the Golden Medal of the European Physical Society. Author of numerous publications in journals and several radio and TV programs on science and society. Creator and ongoing chair for the Warsaw Scientific Picnics (since 1997). Chair for Copernicus Science Center Council. Member of the Polish Adam Smith Center Council. From 1996 till 2003 chair of the Polish Public Radio Commission on Education Programs.

Shushkevich

Politician, physicist. Head of the Belarusian Parliament of the Supreme Soviet of the Belarus (1991–1994). On 8th December 1991, together with the Presidents of Russia (Boris Yeltsin) and Ukraine (Leonid Kravchuk), signed the Declaration dissolving the Soviet Union. He supported free market reforms and played a key role in the creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Studied at the University in Novosibirsk. Holds PhD degree in physics. Poet and Russian translator of the Polish poetry. Author of numerous publications in Nowaja Polsza. A special five-language version of Czesław Miłosz’s poem Orpheus and Eurydice (Cracow, 2002) contains his Russian translation. Lives in Akademgorodok.
