Translator, critic, specialist in English, American and Irish literature. Professor at Jagiellonian University. Editor of Przekładaniec, magazine for translators. In 2003 participated in the conference “The Americans in Krakow – Polish poetry in America”. Since 2001 she is the director of th Study of Literary Translations at the UNESCO Department of Translation and Language Communication Science.

Born in Paris. Studied Russian and Polish Philology at the Eastern Languages Institute in Paris and then Polish Philology at the Sorbonne. She taught Polish language in France. For many years, she has been translating Polish prose into French. Member of the French Association of Literary Translators (Stanisław Lem, Czesław Miłosz, Sławomir Mrożek, Jerzy Pilch, Mariusz Wilk, Adam Zagajewski). Currently the vice-director of the French Institute in Krakow.

Indologist, specialised in modern Hindi literature; lectures at the Department of Indian Studies at the Jagiellonian University Institute of Oriental Philology. She translated a number of works of Polish and Hindi literature; co-edited four bilingual (Polish/Hindi) volumes of selected poems by Wisława Szymborska, Zbigniew Herbert, Czesław Miłosz and Tadeusz Różewicz.

 Professor of Slavic Languages and Literature and Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan. She is the author of The Poetic Avant-Garde in Poland and 1918–1939 and Monumenta Polonica: The First Four Centuries of Polish Poetry.She translates the contemporary Polish poetry. She was also theeditor and translator (with Madeline G. Levine) of Czesław Miłosz’s selected essays To Begin Where I Am.
